On November 26–27, 2020, the VIII International Scientific and Technical Conference «Russian Offshore Oil and Gas Development: Arctic and Far East» (ROOGD-2020) was held at Gazprom VNIIGAZ LLC.

Sergey N. Menshikov, Member of the Management Board, Head of the Gazprom Department, sent a greeting to the participants of the ROOGD-2020 Conference, which was read out by Vadim E. Petrenko, Head of the Gazprom PJSC Directorate. The following persons took part in the Plenary session and addressed the participants with a welcome speech: Maxim Yu. Nedzvetskiy, Deputy Head of the Department of Gazprom PJSC, General Director of Gazprom VNIIGAZ LLC, Evgeny P. Velikhov, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Honorary President of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Kurchatov Institute, Anatoly N. Dmitrievsky, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Scientific Director of the Oil and Gas Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The purpose of the conference was to discuss effective solutions for the development of the resources of the Russian Arctic shelf with the use of new technologies and to exchange experience on the development of offshore fields.

The conference was attended by 280 leading specialists from 7 countries, including representatives of subsidiaries of Gazprom PJSC, government agencies, universities, commercial organizations, equipment manufacturers and service providers. Delegates represented 86 companies and firms working in the field of development of offshore oil and gas fields.

At the Plenary meeting of 26 November 2020, 12 reports were presented on the prospects of development of Gazprom PJSC hydrocarbon resources on the Arctic and Far East shelf of Russia, development of methodology of designing, development of offshore oil and gas fields, development of the Kamennomysskoe-sea and offshore fields of Sakhalin, the use of geophysical technologies for the integrated study of offshore fields and production monitoring, environmental aspects in the operation of floating drilling platforms.

The key reports at the Plenary Session of the conference were delivered by the heads of the relevant Departments, subsidiaries and contractors of Gazprom PJSC.

The conference included a plenary session, a poster section and three round tables:

KS1 Geology and development of offshore fields.

KS2 Design of facilities and operation of offshore fields.

KS3 Two oceans: the present and the future of Russia's offshore oil and gas industry (youth round table).

During the Conference, more than 60 reports of academic and industry institutes, subsidiaries of Gazprom PJSC, expert organizations as well as foreign companies were heard, and 8 poster reports were presented as part of the Poster section.

The conference participants summed up the results of the forum, discussed further development prospects and scientific achievements at the final Plenary Session of the Conference.

The next (IX) International Conference «Russian Offshore Oil and Gas Development: Arctic and Far East» is planned for the 4th quarter of 2022.
